Gout symptoms

The most important points to remember when dealing with gout symptoms. Now kidney stones have a large buildup of uric acid and gout is by large a symptom present in men. The male female ratio is 10 to 1.

The fundamental cause of gout is uric acid, but this does not mean that people with elevated levels of uric acid will always have gout. There are actually other causes of gout which are extremely rare, but worth mentioning. The list of possible secondary causes is so vague that I'm not going to list it here.

Last but not least, it is interesting to mention that there are two different conditions of gout, one includes inflammation and the other is non-inflammatory. So it may be possible to have extreme pain in the toe without having inflammation.

Dealing with gout symptoms is a bit like horseshoes

Sometimes you just have to try a lot of things to clear up your gout. I know it can be painful, but trying various things and tweaking your diet can lead to relief. My analogy is that its a bit like playing horseshoe, once you know the horseshoe rules, you understand the rules of the game and you can tweak your diet until it is perfect. Then, like in horseshoes, you just have to come close enough and the gout symptoms will go away.

What I'm trying to say is, to cure your gout, you don't need to be perfect, just to come close enough.

What are gout symptoms and how do we treat them ?

Diagnosing gout symptoms is the first step in resolving any acute pain that you may have. The most frequent manifestation of this arthritis is that the joint in your big toe hurts. There is a very sharp, acute pain that develops right where your toe bends.

The pain caused by the attack on the joint by gout can be so severe that simple light contact, such as a bed sheet, can be a painful experience. Socks and shoes might also be extremely painful to wear if your large toe is affected by gout.

Characteristics of gout
  • Severe swelling of the joint
  • Sudden, acute pain
  • Red and reflective skin
  • Possible fever
  • Possible peeling of the skin around the joint
These symptoms tend to occur most often in the big toe but can also be found in other various joints in the body. As long as uric acid can deposit itself in the joint, it is possible to suffer from this type of arthritis. People most affected by gout are usually males over the ages of 40, but anyone can be affected including females and children.

Duration of gout

Gout usually last between 5 and 10 days and after which the symptoms will slowly fade away. When treated, it can subside in as little 2 days. This is highly recommended because gout is a chronic syndrome that, left untreated, will return throughout the year. Chronic symptoms of gout include overall joint stiffness, reduced mobility of the joint and possible sores that release white pus.

Trick #1
Many people resort to trying to sleep with their feet on the edge of a bed, uncovered and slightly elevated with a small pillow.

Causes of gout

Gout is also commonly known as crystal-induced arthritis because it occurs when uric acid crystals accumulate in joints. This can be due to an increase in uric acid production in your body or a failure to properly evacuate excess amounts of uric acid.

Usually, accumulations of uric acid in the blood is filtered by the kidneys and then passed into urine. If the kidney function is impaired, a build up of uric acid could occur.

Triggers of gout are:
  • Genetic variations that cause an over production of uric acid
  • Slow kidney function
  • drinking too much alcohol
  • surgery
  • traumatic experience
  • injury to a joint
  • sudden illnesses
  • chemotherapy
  • extreme diets
Trick #2
Alcohol consumption overloads the kidneys, which are responsible for filtering uric acid. Reduce alcohol consumption when dealing with gout.

Gout treatment

Once you have successfully diagnosed that you have gout, you may begin to treat it with various techniques and diets aimed specifically at curing any gout and eliminating any future gout attacks that might occur.

  • Adopting a proper diet is a must, as avoiding rich foods seems to help reduce symptoms associated with gout.
  • Drinking 8-12 glasses of water per day helps evacuate the uric acid buildup
  • Eating green, water rich vegetables
Finally, if you are suffering from gout, know that you are not alone. There are many people who suffer from gout and who have found lasting solutions to this very painful situation. One of these solutions is in the form of a book written by Dr. Jeff Sands that eliminates all the gout symptoms in a very short amount of time. I would highly recommend taking a glance at it here as it he has helped numerous gout sufferers over the years.
